What's the key to blogging? Part 3
3. Write about what people want to read.
What people are we referring too? The people that read your blog, and the people that you want to read your blog. You have already picked your specific audience and now you have to decide what they want to read about. What is important to that audience?
If your blog is designed to help brides plan their weddings then you will want to write about things like picking the right dress, finding a location that fits the theme, picking cakes, choosing the right colors, and the list goes on. You might want to make recommendations on companies these brides should use. Post pictures your readers send you of their weddings that you helped them plan for.
If you are unsure what to write about, take a look at someone who blogs
about the same thing and read what they have blogged about in the past.
The trick is staying focused on that specific audience and not getting off track and talking about something that does not apply. When you start doing that you will lose your readers and quickly kill your blog.
Now your audience could expand, for example (sticking with the bride blog scenario) you could add an additional page to your blog for grooms. That might assist them in picking the right tux or more importantly instruct them on how to be supportive in this happy, but stressful time for their bride. Suggest things they could do to lighten the burden for their bride.
The key to writing the right things for the right person is simply putting yourself in their shoes and trying to imagine everything that they are thinking about and trying to figure out. If you have to, go out and do it. Sacrifice yourself for the sake of research and learn first hand what it’s like! It will only make you a better writer and more sympathetic.
Give it a shot, go have some fun, do the research. You will be surprised by how much you can learn!
1. Keep it SIMPLE
2. Write to a specific audience
3. Write about what people want to read
4. Add fresh content daily
5. Address your audience’s comments
