What's the key to blogging? Part 2
2. Write to a specific audience.
Who are you writing too? You will have to be the judge of that. Each business is generally going to be addressing a different audience. The blog that talks about the new sent of perfume is going to write mostly to women. Now there may be some men that are in need of a gift for their wife that will browse the blog for some direction. And if the topic of your blog is religion, be prepared for various types of readers. In this case you will have to decide which of those readers you want to speak too. If you are a pastor, or minister your priority audience may be your own congregation.
You cant please every reader that comes across your blog. Some may read it and hate it and that is just fine. The person that hates what you write is clearly not in your target audience. But there will be many who will come across your blog and find the information there interesting, intriguing, helpful, thought provoking, important or educational. This is the reader that you want to keep! This is the reader that will make your business grow.
How do you find out who your audience is? Great question… Ask them!!! Send out a poll or just ask people to respond to a simple question like, What type of reader are you? a. regular b. occasional c. first timer Or you could ask them why they read your blog? Entertainment, stay informed, because its helpful, learn new things, or because they are board. The answer to that question is not really important because if they are regular readers then as long as you keep on doing what you do they will keep coming back for more!
You are most likely going to determine who you are writing to based on what your company offers and to whom you offer it. Is it the house wife, the single man or woman, the mother who wants the best health care for her children, the homeowner that needs a bigger home for his growing family, or that lost soul that is hoping to fill a void?
Try to please everyone, and you will end up pleasing no one.
1. Keep it SIMPLE
2. Write to a specific audience
3. Write about what people want to read
4. Add fresh content daily
5. Address your audience’s comments
