What's the key to blogging? Part 1
1. Keep it SIMPLE
There is an acronym that I was taught a long time ago in a sales training class. The trainer said, I want to see you all K.I.S.S.ing everyday! My first impression was, wow! I am really going to like this job! But then he broke down the acronym.
K- Keep
I – It
S – Simple
S – Stupid
Keep it simple stupid, is the whole idea behind blogging and what is also called web 2.0. People want to share more information faster and they want to do it at little to no cost. Well blogging is it!
But what exactly are you keeping simple? Everything!
From the design of your blog to the content and the way you share it. I think that it is important to have a good look, primary because the first impression someone gets of you might be your blog. But there is no need to spend hours and tons of money to design a flashy blog.
The other important thing to think about is over crowding your blog. This is something I see all to often. It’s understandable because you can get so excited about the new blogging initiative your business or you personally are taking and you want to share everything at once. But be careful because an over crowded blog is as unattractive as the mall on the day after Thanksgiving.
Your content does not need to be elegantly written and professionally reviewed for grammar. Now this will also vary based on your blog and the audience you are trying to reach. If you are a English professor and would like to create a blog to address teaching technices then you may want to have proper grammar. But on the other hand if you are creating a blog that will be used to keep your customers informed then a couple grammar miss haps here or there might not be a big deal.
One other thing to remember when writing your post is, to always be you! You don’t need to be someone your not. The idea is for people to get to know you through your blog and to learn to trust you. And they will know if you are faking it.
We are always open to comments or questions….
1. Keep it SIMPLE
2. Write to a specific audience
3. Write about what people want to read
4. Add fresh content daily
5. Address your audience’s comments
