Memories are important, how easy it is to forget

Sometimes we forget where we left our keys, or what we did with our cell phone. Other times we forget peoples names, or an important task (order) from the wife like, picking up milk and tampons on the way home from work. (why do those things always go together and which is more important?) Have you ever forgotten what you did with your 3 year old!!? (i hope not but if that is you GET HELP!! Please :-) )

There are other things that we tend to forget, important things, like where we come from, where are we going, and why are we here? Believe it or not there are more important things then your cell phone and the 3 text messages you have gotten sense you started reading this post. There are even more important things then your job, and your education. Not that these things aren’t important because they are , but why is it that less important important things are placed higher on the list of importance? Never will your job be more important then your family! It is important to your family that you are employed, but being employed is not the most important thing. How much time are you spending with your children? Do you take the time to stop and just hold your wife in silence? Do you praise your son/daughter when they make academic achievements? Do you ever stop and for no reason take the family out for ice cream? Have you stopped your busy life for 5 or 10 minutes to help someone else in their busy life?

What you are doing, what I am doing is important! We all have lives to live, things we want to achieve, successes yet to be tasted, but has all the noise and all the ruckus in your life, silenced the most important things?

What is important to you may not be as important to me, this is true! But we are lying to ourselves if we think that careers, jobs, school, fun times, and hanging with the guys/gals is the most important thing. Like I stated before these things are important, but what are you sacrificing for them? What things do you push away from, to get these less important important things accomplished. WHAT ARE YOU MISSING OUT ON!!?

Lately I have noticed myself recalling memories of better times. For me this is an unusual occurrence. I tend to leave the past in the past, purposely suppressing memories to avoid any emotional reactions or frustration. I have been remembering a time when I was better then I am now, a time when I had my priorities properly aligned and I was happy! When the important things were truly the important things.

I have also heard a voice lately, most likely my own internal psyche repeating the words, “Oh, remember, remember…” What is it that I need to remember, has never been a question that I needed to ask myself, I have always known!

Remembering important things like; promises, commitments, love, the worth of another, the value of family, lessons already learned, obedience, personal worth and God (to name a few), isn’t always that easy.

It is easier to remember the times, the events that sparked other emotions, generally carnal emotions, emotions of the flesh. The time you got angry and hit a wall, the passionate relationship that turned out to be a binge of lust, and the time you drove someone you loved away with your words or actions. Easy to remember these, because these carnal emotions leave physical scars.

But the other emotions, the spiritual or honest emotions, these don’t leave physical scars they are to sacred to personal. These scars are internal, they are harder to see so we tend to forget faster. For me these moments are the most important, these are the things that I need to remember.

Nobody is perfect, nobody is asking us to be perfect, honestly where would the fun be in a life full of perfection, or in a relationship that was perfect? The perfect moments come in the times that we accept our imperfections and go with it!

We may never remember everything, but we should always remember that the important things arn’t always the important things.
